ASEI 102 delayed, another side effect of the pandemic

  • Pedro Cahn

Abstract

The year 2020 will be remembered in future history books as the year of the CoVID-19 pandemic, produced by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

No wonder, considering that a little more than eight months have passed since the first cases were reported in the city of Wuhan, Hubei province, in China, and approximately 30 million people have already been infected, with more than 1 million deaths in all regions of the planet.

Latin America has become the epicenter of the pandemic in recent months. Six of the twelve countries in the world with the highest number of reported cases belong to this region: Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Argentina.

The editors of this publication are health professionals and, as such, we are deeply committed to the healthcare and research tasks arising from this unprecedented epidemiological challenge.

The pandemic has caused a health, social and economic catastrophe, with consequences not yet sufficiently measured at individual level. Among the hundreds of thousands of sick and deceased, healthcare workers are disproportionately represented. All of us who are part of the healthcare team have colleagues who have suffered from the disease in its different presentations, including critical forms and, unfortunately, death.

In this difficult context, it was impossible for us to publish the 102nd issue of our journal, which has been published uninterruptedly since 1993, during the first quadrimester of the year. For this reason, we apologize to our readers and, along with presenting this (delayed) issue number 102, we are committed to regularizing the publication of the following issues in the coming months.

On behalf of the Argentine Society of Infectious Diseases and Fundación Huésped, we thank you for your continued support and invite you to send us your papers for publication.

We continue working to obtain the inclusion of our journal in PubMed. We are counting on you.
