Diagnosis of Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika, and other arboviruses in Arngentina: state of the art
Abstract
Arthropod-borne viruses, mosquito-borne viruses, are becoming increasingly important global health threats and spreading rapidly worldwide. They are hundreds of predominantly RNA viruses transmitted by arthropods and maintained in complex cycles involving vertebrates such as mammals or birds. Many arboviruses have emerged from their sylvatic reservoirs and dispersed globally due to evolving factors that include anthropological behavior, commercial transportation and land- remediation. Nowadays dengue is a growing health problem in most of the provinces of the subtropical and temperate part of Argentina. The recent introduction of Chikungunya (CHIKV) and Zika (ZIKV) viruses in the northwest part of Argentina has become more complex dengue diagnosis and report. Clinical similarities as well as the difficulties of differentiating them with currently available laboratory tests constitute a challenge for the surveillance system and health staff. Critical aspects of the etiological diagnosis of ZIKV, DENV and CHIKV infections will be presented.
