Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a predominantly seasonal pathogen with an increasing incidence in Argentina (1). It is most prevalent among children under 2 years of age and older adults, particularly those with risk factors (cardiovascular diseases, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes, immunocompromised individuals).
Since there is no effective treatment for its management, disease prevention is of particular importance. Numerous studies have demonstrated that RSV vaccination in adults reduces the risk of illness, complications, and hospitalization in the most vulnerable populations (2, 3). Several countries have incorporated RSV immunization for adults into their respective immunization schedules in recent years.
Although two vaccines are approved in our country, they have not yet been incorporated into the National Immunization Schedule. The Argentine Society of Infectious Diseases, through its Vaccine Commission, has issued this document, which provides valuable guidance for considering adult vaccination against this pathogen.
